being wiser

am i none the wiser now? probably.. probably not the way god decreed all mankind but good enough to survive in my tiny realm of realism. so many things have happened lately that i wouldn't know how to put it to words without offending some people. it's like a snow blizzard which you couldn't have known better but keeps coming. this lush icy white settling down like a blanket and you gingerly step on it trying not to spoil mother nature's attempt at perfection. and then there's anger. the way movies depict the anger at how things spiral out of control or the classic 'why me of all people' syndrome. does everyone have such moments? I'm not too sure. in most cases when there's anger there's surely the blame game. I take a look at myself and where i point my finger. do i blame my parents for bringing me up the way i am? for subconsciously overindulging my siblings? do i say it's their fault for nurturing me or my brothers the way we are? are they none the wiser too then? probably.

of course all these thoughts are like an immune system set into motion once the road becomes bumpy. the body's auto defense mechanism. finding excuses on what went wrong. i won't deny too that rarely do i admit i am at fault. pride is such a hard fall. yet sometimes I wonder how difficult it is to display empathy. Putting yourself in someone else's shoes. imagining you are at the receiving end. which is why i hate it when people assume that i don't know any better. just because i'm not living their lives. granted i am not. fine. then stop with the self pity if you can't even be bothered with any explanation. the world doesn't need another hero anyway.

it's the same when you criticise. others that is. you forget that we are all made different and being different doesn't mean you are undeserving. i forget myself sometimes. that we shouldn't belittle those who gave as much as i did who laughed as much i did and breathed as much as i did. and you know having gone through life as it is now it's quite difficult not to form an opinionated view on certain things and i respect that. i get that. do you?

gaining perspectives

i was hoping to get inspirational but nope, age just makes me feel more and more complacent nowadays. settling down comfortably in the routine and taking risk-less choices. turning a year older every year makes me feel like it's about time i own the world. you know 'seize the day!' kind of deal? but that should have been right after graduation when passion was fueled with youth. on hindsight i don't think my life would have turned out any different with the character i have been subconsciously molded into after 3 decades. regardless of the type of work i am doing. having said that do i see anything wrong with it? yes if i'm being compared to my peers. no if man itself can indeed be an island. this seems like a paradox in the society we live in because all of us simply have this unnerving instinct to 'feed off' each other. how can there not be discontentment or any resentment on my part?

it took me awhile. trying to figure out what i have learned and unlearned after all these years. would my life be any different now if i had taken another route? would i have reached for the stars and grabbed hold of my dreams? would i be any more at peace with myself if the situation were to be reversed? maybe. maybe not. you see that's the wonderful thing about life. the decisions you make and the choices you live with not knowing what the outcome would be. and sometimes you just have to make do with the things you are blessed with not second guessing all the time about the 'what ifs' that pass you by. the world is such full of possibilities and our lives do not end like simply like the story in a book...i know this is empty talk but go on you can still make a difference and create another tale because your chapter is not done yet! ;p

and in gaining perspectives some say wisdom i found out i no longer have any faith in humanity. of course i've always been cynical my entire life. but that's how i viewed the world. how the world treated me in returning favours. pfffbbt! i can't argue with that. it's the whole cosmos aka universe against a pathetic spark of light yours truly. now a totally new erm shall we call philosophy? *just to make it more outlandish* =D has dawned on me (which i know i have limited control over as well). hear hear! the humanity for which our race is based upon is ridiculously ungodlike. i know i'm not religious and i shouldn't be expecting graciousness from strangers and miracles to be performed. but how is it that humanity has come and fallen to such state? if i am a believer i will genuinely be very troubled that we are made in his likeness. why? because half the things humans do on a daily basis are enough to put the devil to shame and blush. i'm sure you are probably baffled by all the blabbering here but indulge me for a moment. the stories i hear recently mostly betrayals of the most unlikely of people are sufficient to make my head spin and rethink if i am any better than them or if integrity exists at all. seriously people!

if this is between friends who hold no bond to each other except for mutual obligation and camaraderie of having put together by chance events there leaves nothing to be said for turning his back on you when the opportunity arises.
if this is between relation by blood and nothing but pure family lines have brought together and intertwine the fates of your lives then commiseration be upon you for having met such malevolence.
if this is between closed ones whom you have decided to share the rest of a lifetime and embrace their beings regardless of all superficiality then woe and tribulation betide you for misplacing this love! ~_~

i know this sounds awfully deranged but i just think to myself temptations are everywhere so how does one not put himself in the path? is the happily ever after so unattainable and exclusive to the minority? can the masses not grasp this concept of self resilient and gratification of giving instead of receiving? are the generations so fickle nowadays? i'm quite peeved too about my non-denomination, religiously of course. is the whole purpose of segregating to try and cut me off and make me feel like an outcast? do these beliefs promote something we call equality or just a superiority of being in the 'know how' and tsk you'd never understand no m.a.t.t.e.r. how many times i explain? if you've found a meaning to clutch onto in life or a passion to invoke as your own it doesn't mean my life is any less worthy than yours beyotch..seriously if we both didn't stink of humanity i couldn't have cared less =X sigh~

=_= there's nothing i can do to reconcile all these emotions i suppose but a rant did me good and lotsa of chilling to catch up on till i hear less cries of calamities in the recent climate of things to be.

there were truckloads of people at causeway bay!! managed to get some shopping done at island beverley or fashion walk? malls hmmm not that cheap tho' thereafter went to wellington street @ central to try some famous noodle shops for the first time! i dunno why i always end up buying lots in hk when my colleague didn't at all...it's just an engaging 24/7 metropolis which fascinates me each time, the people their dialect the buildings the eclectic mix of old and new fusion of modern versus traditional foods and seemingly capricious nature of the fashion sense there..i like being the kaleidoscopic onlooker breathing in the bustling streets and shops sprung up from nowhere or trying to fit in between the skyscrapers....hk just does it better for me than any other cities in the world ^ ^

my head's still feeling woozy. my breath is definitely heavier like something dark seeped through and my heart is being squeezed tight i can hardly feel a beat and try as i might i couldn't take in a deep breath and let it all out as much as i'd like to. but i know it'll all pass with time. i'm grateful to the people out there who should've said 'i told you so' and spit me in the face didn't and instead listened to my agonizing sorrow and let me wallow deliriously in self-pity for a meaningless decision that i long stood by. i didn't listen then not because i didn't know any better. i didn't stop the tears now because i deserved it. yet i am still touched that you let me fall down and sat by me taking in those things that would serve as your warnings once not too long ago. no doubt i am a silly girl who has not learned to abide to any rules of the game.

yeah the blurry picture is meant to depict my life too. how fast time flew and what it could have meant in the past year. it's quite funny. i've always deliberated posting my bf's picture on the blog because i had this thought that pictures like that would defile my personal blog once things don't work out. i'll think, so do i go back to the previous posts to delete only pictures of him or do i let things remain? because once in a while i do reread my blog and see what nonsense i've been writing and self-reflect and see how i've changed over the years. but i was in love and thought there's nothing wrong with being upfront with my feelings. and now the extreme irony is i may have to take down his pictures despite uploading them only so recently. but on hindsight i've decided not to. because deleting them doesn't mean that nothing has happened. doesn't mean i could go back to the past. even though i'd probably have a moment when i reread this the next time i can't deny all that i went through. then again this might have been fueled by my ex's act of not uploading pictures of us on fb (yes sneaky lil' bastard) before he'd even let me in on his unilateral decision to break up. so be it. a last picture of us together to remind me what a joke this has been.
i guess i can't stop anyone from loving himself more than anything else. because that sort of places his ego way up higher than anyone. and there are some people who will keep on taking while there are those like me who keeps giving. when there's no balance in such a relationship it's extremely taxing on the giver who is the only one trying to maintain the relationship. of course people who only love themselves don't know anything about love. because theirs is a selfish one. it doesn't take much to find out how to love thyself and behave like a single entity. on the other hand it takes much more than just courage to love another, efforts to find out what makes that person tick and to try and understand how to make that person feel loved. i'm not a guru but i'm just blind when it comes to such matters of the heart especially when i come face to face with it. i'm so ruled by emotion that now i'm a crying wreck of something having gone wrong even though i half expected things to turn out this way. i know it'll be better for the both of us in the long run. because i know this person and how he is. but i guess ultimately i am just saddened once more of how a person who was with me for so long could turn his back just like that with a snap of the fingers. maybe there's a horrible mixture of betrayal and heartbreak now but i can't figure out how i could trust again in anyone who could be so two-faced. even the one whom i thought was closest to me could hurt me like i don't matter at all. maybe i'm crying because i've lost to an unseen enemy. because i'm accused too of not living life to the fullest by not showing any interests in anything. yeah i didn't know living my life this way somehow became my fault. maybe because i'm angry too why would anyone compare his gf with another girl when i accepted him for all that he is, his faults entire wardrobe mishap and his commitment phobia? i'm angry too that someone could choose a date for breaking up so that it probably would not affect his trip in 2 week's time, his departure from citibank and him joining a new company? i'm angry because this person is so meticulous in his life that he doesn't take chances to let anything disrupt it which meant that he didn't find it in his conscience to give me the most basic respect i deserve in the end.
so i'm trying to reconcile all these thoughts and feelings. learning to love myself more too at this moment because i was never selfish in my love. but god is unfair. because you'd never know. next moment someone like him will very soon put this all behind him and think he's capable of giving out some selfish loving' to a new bitch.

about spoilt princesses (way backdated ~~)

i read about the above topic not long ago on a friend's fb link and this post has been sitting here for some time when procrastination sets in and lingered like a cheap perfume you can't get rid of haha. oh well i usually lose my train of thoughts thereafter. but fine i'm abit jet lagged after my trip and funnily i vaguely recall this word being used in one of the arguments during our drives across central karoo, south africa's arid desert.
if i remember correctly that article spoke about a nation of spoilt princesses. apparently the adjective was used because i presume the entire female species was deemed by a bereaved male that they were going against mother nature by simply choosing not to pro-create...we're edu-cated we've got the earn-ning ability when we've got all that we want (note through our own ability) we can so do without a man and getting tied down by a family at this juncture of our lives. but it's wrong you see. religion tells us otherwise because children of eves, in case you haven't digested the bit of forbidden fruit you've sunk your teeth into, you were never born to provide. a virtuous woman submits and nurtures. dutifully so. it's like what i always say dear god give us free will but not the mind to think for ourselves. we're becoming too smart for our own good. once we have the power to decide and sway our fate and determine how we should spend the hard-earned money we've earned (for eg. on domestic helpers to lighten our load) that makes us unwilling mothers? then does the division of responsibilities in the household mean we can't handle hardship? or (don't tell me *gasp*) is it only asians who feel this way?
right. it's more 'ethical' to hire part-timers and nannies because you know they're paid more per hour so we feel less guilty? and you feel better already because they aren't staying in the 'windowless' room and constantly available 24/7 so that they play fetch the slippers with you. bulls. you know what i think? we're not spoilt. we're just clueless. yep the entire nation. not just females. regardless of what ns does to inflate the male ego prematurely. and that's because psychologically it's the longest period of time boys are away from their mothers and any spoon-feeding. which makes them feel like they've turned fiercely independent breaking free from this constant vigilance on them since birth. so don't bring it on about the spoilt princesses. we have a nation of pampered boys as well. don't tell me that a guy doesn't have to ensure sending a girl home when it's late. in those days it's call gentlemanly behaviour and i guess in singapore it's a tiny island we don't make you detour an extra hour because of it. sure i could make my way home but it's definitely nice to know that the offer means you're being taken care of. humanely so. some people just don't have to live with their conscience when things happen till it's too late. i remember a girlfriend back in adelaide who sent everyone home because she had a car and she always waited until each person entered the gate before leaving. btw that's called good manners too and well brought up. i have guy friends i barely know who sent me home regardless because these nearly extinct people don't think much of such efforts simply because it doesn't take alot. and people texting me to make sure i reach home safe. stop it already, you guys are totally spoiling me! ^ _^
hmmm where was i? i'm particularly sensitive to this word too because i was called spoilt in those days when i had my dad chauffeuring me to school. what? just because i don't take public transport i'm spoilt? wtf? do i know where i stand in life? yes. do i know when to be appreciative and how give respect when it's due? yes. do i take material things for granted? no. do i demand for the impossible? no. do i insist in my own way blindly? no. i hate this disguised halo effect and those who think they have every right to demean others and can't seem to envision anyone else out there facing the same problems or empathizing with theirs just because they feel like the victimized protagonist in their sob stories. ok totally deviated and besides the point. what i'm saying is you don't get spoilt because of better treatment. it's when you start taking these things for granted...
so we are just clueless. we're brought up this way. with a lot of parental guidance, dominating our ultimate decisions in life. we're brought up witnessing the lives of our parents which we don't ever want history to repeat itself on us. come'on look at our poor mother. slaving for her husband half her life. slaving for us another half of her life and slaving for our grandchildren the extended half of her life? do you reckon we'd want to be housewives willingly with no compromise or help to offload the burden we've seen descend on our mothers? it's not like 'oh with today's pampering we can't achieve what they've achieved'. it's more so of 'oh hell no way i am going through what she went through'. and why should we give up our youth for the next generation when we're still clueless about the life we want to lead. that my dear is what i call evolution of thoughts!!
plus we are still living off our parents. this doesn't give us any maneuvering space for independence nor reason to self-examine the path we've taken to know exactly what we want. yet we've seen the worst case scenarios and read enough about broken families and failed marriages. the rational ones don't submit to love easily. they look at a potential candidate and consider if this man can provide a future for the family. what's wrong with that? they choose to remain single rather than to depend on a person they deemed unworthy. what's wrong with that? should they then get married for the sake of queuing for a hdb flat? now tell me what is wrong with that?

say what? yes it is i said papa palheta...it's a specialty coffee roasting place @ hooper road

and it's turning into a cafe where you sample their coffee before buying the beans...see the chic drip machine above?

and the fun part is there is no menu no price list! they try to accommodate your requests and you pay/tip according to what you deem the drink is worth =)

mocha and iced mocha (it's refreshing but not the best mocha i've drunk just because the coffee taste itself is bittersweet and doesn't leave an aftertaste)

it's a small nook off the beaten track and fully occupied when we went on a late saturday afternoon...

but first off to prive for some brunch..it was good eggs royale laden with hollandaise sauce which i forgot to snap pics of...darn! and somehow now i have a spoilt handphone which is permanently on speaker mode hmmm shld i downgrade?

@ the restaurant! unique menu behind this signboard but we're abit clueless on rustic french fare...

so we ordered this! which was venison sausage with foie gras (urgg totally not my kind of food)

this was pork cheek ratatouille so of coz i was attacking all the pork cheek than the vegs which the boyfriend complained i left him all the greens ha! am i such a person *humph*

we shared the over roasted lamb leg with like 11+ pieces of lamb slabs between the 2 of us?? we were stuffed even tho' the meat was tender and not with lotsa fats...

mmmm chocolate profiteroles which had a lot of choco sauce...overall it was a very hearty meal altogether and even tho' those dishes are meant for 2 it could easily accommodate up to 4 persons =]

went to the singapore gun club to try this out...$65 for 25 bullets includes pep talk by the instructor!

them bullets and them shotguns....weighs around 4.5kg each!

taking aim and shooting! think there's a video of me hitting the target circulating around somewhere =P and realised i've a master left eye which makes it difficult to aim properly but at least i hit something ya?? oh got an ugly bruise on my arm too due to the recoil =(

tried the burgers @ relish which is really not bad and then we had mini molten cakes at 3-inch sin~ original, hazelnut and coffee flavours! but now i'm really sick coz i've been naughty and didn't watch what i eat T_T *humph*

remember i was in hanoi last year? well the asia pacific rail 2010 is being held at bangkok this year and i had a chance to tag along to help out even tho' we have a divisional office there =X the conference hotel is intercontinental which is right smack next to centralworld/zen shopping mall..how good is that??

we found time in the evening to do some nailart at suan lum night bazaar....at only 100bht!!

taking a rest at this 'vanilla' shop in siam paragon...simply heart the shape of this cup (so laura ashley!) and that's their version of the molten chocolate cake with ice cream where they didn't bother to invert and take the cake out heh

so when does the real disappointment kick in? everybody has expectations of somebody out there and they reckon that they deserve nothing less because each one of us feels like we've given our best at times. and those moments when you feel like your heart can't possibly encompass any more of the sadness seeping in you turn to leave. because that seems to be the easiest way out. and i wish i am a coward too. i could hide behind the shadows and i could lower my expectations and make the same excuses for you. instead of trying. because sometimes trying takes alot out of you. like the courage you need in fighting off mystical dragons in faraway lands. it deflates you thereafter. and sometimes when you run out of excuses it becomes tiring. like losing yourself in a labyrinth you think the best solution is to stop running after all you'd end up at the same spot. because i'm not sure what happens next either. when i'm no longer finding reason enough for the same smile the same gesture the same goofiness the same person. and just to stop the hurt we all run from the comfortable space where we found each other and took off to a time and place where we hardly knew one another. and i realise at one point how sad are we? the flawed beings we are. even he made us so.

it's been a while since i had good food and le bistrot serves pretty darn good food especially since i enjoyed each of the 2 appetizers 1 main 1 dessert ordered that day...of coz i'm not gonna go as far as fhm and claim that's one of the best meal i have for a looong time even tho' it seemed like he booked the entire place ;p

saumon cru marine - raw salmon fillet homecured with dill and gin, drizzled with white truffle oil, and served with a deep-fried soft boiled egg, mint creme fraiche and mesclun salad

cauliflower soup with foie gras shavings and white truffle oil - i wouldn't mind if they gave me foie gras chunks but savouring it intermittantly was enough to send tingles down my spine ^_^

this was one of the specials on the chalkboard as well - lamb rack! you have to add an extra $12 but it's more than enough for 2 persons tho' and extremely tender albeit gamy...

warm dark chocolate ganache and pistachios in feuilles side brick pastry, served with pistachio creme anglaise and vanilla bean ice cream! if you like the ever popular warm lava choco cake you'd luuurve this..it's the first time there's plenty of ice cream left to go with the chocolate! Mmm mmm

yeah i had something sinful ~_~ it's called foie gras which i lurve and see no reason in boycotting though i do empathise with the owners of them livers being force-fed and all (yes i've known that fact since i started putting something foreign into my mouth not just due to the recent email circulating ard) it's the same reason i'm not shark friendly nor drinking fairtrade coffee nor saving the earth and doing 1 person's feat for the whole world. nope i am not that noble to promote a cause no matter how worthy it is. life's simple i just like what i eat =]

room mates in adelaide 2000. then the periodic pilgrimage trip either me taking the endless coach ride to neighbouring kl or her zooming into singapore. you know there's some people who effortlessly engages you in conversations and whom you really hit it off. just because you are you and she's herself. so there's no excuses for not keeping in touch the rest of the time. no excuses for not filling in on each other's life. no excuses for belated wishes and no excuses for being yourself. and when we do rarely meet up there's no awkwardness above all the frivolity. it's like being back in school. all there is was chatter. words flow and spill out from your mouth and whatever comes to mind and i miss that. the sameness the familiarity. i'm the kind of person who resists changes and would very much prefer to live in a sterile environment so that life doesn't get interrupted. i'd like to close my eyes and be able to find my perfect cave to hide in. it's not like i'm not adaptable. I am. but it takes time having to readjust one's emotions. and to reach a certain level of comfort. change is always here and i can't ask them to take a step back. but life gets easier because you grow a little each time. and this is why we reminisce.

it could've been bluefin tuna sashimi for the same price but much lesser portion! damn...

i couldn't blog at home for a few weeks apparently due to a singtel proxy problem and the solution was as simple as hitting the command + shift + R buttons for mac users with FF. so it was today that i decided to sit down and google my way out. don't you just love the world wide web? ok ok i'll sort out the html code for email template another day ;p you know i had a few posts in mind a few pictures in place ready to be uploaded. i wanted to say something it was on the tip of my tongue but with time it just sort of passes. passed me by in the moments of a few weeks and things got less important. for me to blog about. somehow it didn't seem to matter as much if i didn't say certain things at certain times and if i didn't need to have an open opinion about stuff. in general.
you know initially i thought the first signs for turning of age is to say what you think. come on we're all adults we can look each other in the face and be direct about everything under the sun. *shrugs* life's short ain't it to be playing games no more. but lately on several occasions i've come to realise that life's not all about me. i mean i knew that from long ago perhaps i should say there's more to life than just that one moment of me. hey i think i've discovered my sensitive side. ha! well everybody thinks the world revolves around them. that they are life's latest victims. eh or the planet's greatest joke. true you should live the way you like and deem fit. there's the freedom of speech and the loudest always gets heard. and the echo in the voice you hear is always 'me me me'. i have feelings. i am sad. i don't like what you did. i am happy. i think you are rude. this is the way i am. what does it matter if people don't see it my way? i'll still make a point. loud and clear.
however it's not about being upfront straightforward frank blunt or outspoken at times. more than often when we speak in such manner we get credited for being candid for speaking our minds. why not express ourselves freely? why should we if it's basically a selfish attempt to scream for attention? i agree i can be brutally in your face sometimes but it's not to force my will on anyone. it's not to ask for empathy. you find out everyone has their own stand and try to impose it on others. i don't wish to be indignant just because someone out there didn't hear me. even if they've heard does it mean anything? i've learnt it's not imperative that i am understood. even if i am does it mean someone else gets to live my life? i don't see a need for explanations to show that there's a reason behind everything i do. even if there is does it justify my actions in the end? i've learnt to take a step back. even if i don't tomorrow will always be there.
it's not that i've lost my voice. i've just learnt to hold things back nowadays. ok unless it really bugs me. and i've learnt that the beauty of time throws everything that matters at one point into perspective days later. then eventually all the seemingly important things turn petty and life's really more than this.

If only it were possible for us to see farther than our knowledge reaches, and even a little beyond the outworks of our presentiment, perhaps we would bear our sadnesses with greater trust than we have in our joys. For they are the moments when something new has entered us, something unknown; our feelings grow mute in shy embarrassment, everything in us withdraws, a silence arises, and the new experience, which no one knows, stands in the midst of it all and says nothing.

We are solitary. We can delude ourselves about this and act as if it were not true. That is all. But how much better it is to recognize that we are alone; yes, even to begin from this realization. It will, of course, make us dizzy; for all points that our eyes used to rest on are taken away from us, there is no longer anything near us, and everything far away is infinitely far. A man taken out of his room and, almost without preparation or transition, placed on the heights of a great mountain range, would feel something like that: an unequalled insecurity, an abandonment to the nameless, would almost annihilate him. He would feel he was falling or think he was being catapulted out into space or exploded into a thousand pieces: what a colossal lie his brain would have to invent in order to catch up with and explain the situation of his senses. That is how all distances, all measures, change for the person who becomes solitary; many of these changes occur suddenly and then, as with the man on the mountaintop, unusual fantasies and strange feelings arise, which seem to grow out beyond all that is bearable. But it is necessary for us to experience that too. We must accept our reality as vastly as we possibly can; everything, even the unprecedented, must be possible within it. This is in the end the only kind of courage that is required of us: the courage to face the strangest, most unusual, most inexplicable experiences that can meet us.

But the fear of the inexplicable has not only impoverished the reality of the individual; it has also narrowed the relationship between one human being and another, which has as it were been lifted out of the riverbed of infinite possibilities and set down in a fallow place on the bank, where nothing happens. For it is not only indolence that causes human relationships to be repeated from case to case with such unspeakable monotony and boredom; it is timidity before any new, inconceivable experience, which we don't think we can deal with. but only someone who is ready for everything, who doesn't exclude any experience, even the most incomprehensible, will live the relationship with another person as something alive and will himself sound the depths of his own being. for if we imagine this being of the individual as a larger or smaller room, it is obvious that most people come to know only one corner of their room, one spot near the window, one narrow strip on which they keep walking back and forth. In this way they have a certain security. And yet how much more human is the dangerous insecurity that drives those prisoners in Poe's stories to feel out the shapes of their horrible dungeons and not be strangers to the unspeakable terror of their cells. We, however, are not prisoners. No traps or snares have been set around us, and there is nothing that should frighten or upset us. i feel like this sometimes. wanting to blast out at the whole world. i had alot on my mind this morning whilst i walk my path. maybe i've been presumptuous and overly conceited at times without knowing. i felt like i didn't owe the world anything neither did i owe anyone an explanation. perhaps all this boils down to a willful nature and doggedness behaviour towards something i fail to comprehend. or simply won't let myself. but because of the hurt that will not give up now. and every so often i learned through the ways. every so often i needed to shut down. i needed to reconcile with myself for having been torn up inside. and i owe myself this. before i find reason to disregard the contemptuous judgment and see through it all. before the walls come up and i lose sense of rationality so that the sad is no longer heavy and the bitter is no longer down. all i need is to walk away. maybe i am a coward at heart. maybe i've learnt it's not enough being strong in life. and neither do i deserve second chances. pray tell. to redo the wrong and let myself in once more.

is difficult. unless you're having to cut off all ties with that person and you could only wish him/her the best. because with love there tend to be expectations. with contact there is the hope of reciprocation of returning the smile of the occasional glance back at you of the awkwardness that looms over in which one of you tries to break the silence...then the heart breaks a little with the subtlety of each action you read into and your breath sinks in with every bit of vague indifference towards you then you start the self-doubt that you're never good enough.
which is why i stand firm by my advice. why should you put yourself in that position where you're vulnerable? and automatically start categorising each person into a 'criteria' checklist before anything anything is happening? but life is short and my theory is seriously flawed and crack full of contradictions. i find myself someone who will simply plunge head first into the deep end and worry about worrying later. so it's not like i become any more guarded myself.
on a separate note i read chesil beach by ian mcewan (recommended by my boss which i told him it's a more eloquent form of trashy novels haha) well basically it talks about the rigidity of a pair of newly weds who tries to consummate for the very first time on their wedding night in an era where sex was a forbidden topic. unimaginably perplexing a conversational piece nowadays but sadly tender. by highlighting how great a difference one small decision could have made how happiness was missed just in split seconds of the self giving in to pride or fear. and i don't believe in running away from it all of the fear of losing and karma beckoning. it's all in that one instant of life-defining moment that we miss out something important we could never have known but which our hearts ask later on. it's never too late to take a step back...seriously that's what all the movies say ;)
